Today
Today I’m grateful for my home:
My neighborhood, its people and landscape.
Walking to the river whenever I feel like it.
(Even though I should be fretting over global warming) I’m grateful for this exceedingly mild winter!

I don't do "isms"
Lent is here and naturally I have not given it a second thought (except when I went into the Rogue on Ash Wednesday for trivia, I chuckled at one or two folks with smudges on their foreheads). I don’t make specific Lenten promises any more than I do New Year’s Resolutions. Mostly, I believe, it’s an externally-generated construct which sets one up for failure and guilt.

Ugh! -or- Why I'll never be thin
Today was my day off. My first full day off in a while. So, what did I
do? Long-overdue laundry, shopping, errands and cleaning. The only
pleasures I fit in were food & wine. (A Premier Cru Chablis we sell

I realize seeing a tween girl singing “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” is
no different than me singing “Penny Lane”
Scarves
I had a dream that a cashmere scarf fell into a paper shredder. It
seemed so real.
Things I love
Bored to death, MST 3k, Kilo, truffles, l’Hermitage, abstract
painting, Barcelona, the Wire, New York, Lyme CT, Princeton, most red
wine, Talking Heads, Hedwig & the Angry Inch, the Gansevoort Hotel
(once), morels, Mac OS, driving, horseback riding, the beach,
waterfalls, walking around Rome, boating, parler francais, roller
coasters, intimacy (conversational, plus otherwise),...
When the pain ends the love ends.

devoted some of my spare time to creatively promoting my shop - stuff
like blog posts, talking it up all over town, making a movie, creating
logo stickers. Now I still have the...

A Diocese is a Bishoprick, but so are most Bishops →
Apparently most Catholics who attended Mass last weekend (which is not the same as “most Catholics”) were treated to letters read from the pulpit concerning the Church’s stand against contraception and the Obama administration’s HHS mandate that it be available freely in all insurance coverage.
This link is to a snarky recitation of all the other issues Catholic Bishops...

Typical. Catholic institutions have been providing health care coverage which included birth control for their employees (if their employees so desired) for years. AND SUDDENLY it’s an issue because the Obama administration does it! The right-wing makes me literally sick.
Isn’t conservatism supposedly all about personal responsibility? That’s what I don’t understand. It is...
